A country that experience conflict experience lots of disruption in education system.
One of the troubles is that school activities are run by the majority of unqualified teachers. Simply because, teachers who qualify in the field flee the teaching profession for jobs with good pay in various UN agencies, NGO's and other International and national organizations who get attracted to the states experiencing conflict. This however, makes the quality of education in emergency situation to suffer in the hands of untrained teachers hence failure in meeting educational target in such arena.
Conclusively, the trouble in education system in emergency situation is triggered by the inability of the government to fund teachers a viable salary during crisis since good salary is one of the motivating factor for better teaching.
Colleagues, don't you think this situation is similar to what we experience at home right now?
I find it interesting that the same organizations who come to help during a crisis (NGOs) in fact do serious harm by depriving the educational system of qualified educators! I cannot blame a teacher for doing what is best for his or her family or self, but maybe we need to look at how these NGOs operate and where priorities are placed! Thanks for making me thing about this in a way I have not up to this point.
ReplyDeleteThe issue of late and small salaries for teacher is one of the most challenges of education in South Sudan as a result of conflicts, which let them to flee and work with organizations or other business as you said which affects the educational system. Teachers and soldiers are not valued like in other countries and instead of being the good jobs that help in building the nation. So I totally agree with you on that!
ReplyDeleteThis is true, brain drain is a very big challenge we are facing, reason being teacher s look for jobs with better salaries because they have a lot of responsibilities at home which require money. This can be like paying their childrens' school fees, feeding and medical expenses is challenging leading teachers to move to a paying jobs than teaching but if only, teachers' salaries are increase their will be good quality of education in South Sudan, because education is a key to the development of any country in the world.
