The knowledge and the skills that I have gained in this program, has made me to identify so many ways that I can use to encourage girls education in South South.
Based on the current situation in my country and as a teacher, what I will do to encourage girls education is through my teaching profession. The best way I will do this is by making my teaching more learners centered and gender sensitivity. Since the impact I will make might not be much, I will therefore advocate for the curriculum to be revised and train more teachers on students-centered teaching methods and gender sensitivity.
I believe, this will motivate many girls to go to school
Colleagues, don't you think this can play a big role in encouraging girls education?
Absolutely, Rose your of teaching methods leading to motivation of girls education is perfect solution. I also thought the same way. indeed there are so many ways that can encourage not only the girls, but also the parents, families and communities. And teachers are key player for those ways or methods. With the knowledge we gained here in IU, we need to do something in classroom that can press girls, parents, families and communities to focus about education. This can be doing directly or indirectly without the girls, parents, families and communities realizing it, through applications of different strategies in teaching. Finally they will get motivated in education. good suggestions Rose.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful conversation. I think the idea of bringing gender sensitive instruction into the classroom is critical. It ties in nicely with what Grace said in her post about inquiry based instruction and its benefits for girls education!
ReplyDeleteRose is a very good idea to use learner centered methods, this helps students to learn amongst them selves and participate in collaborative learning in different groups, thus mixing girls and boys to share views, which will help girls build self confidence in class, as they mix with boys.Is very important for teachers to be gender sensitive to balance up participation between boys and girls.
